Beta Melee

As with all games, changes were made to Super Smash Bros Melee before it was released. But up until now, I didn't have many screenshots of "beta" SSBM.
Thanks to Melee-Master for sending in these images.

Pre-Release Screenshot
In this screenshot, we can see the Motion Sensor Bomb was known as the Proximity Mine. And instead of being based on the Goldeneye mine, it looks exactly like a Proximity Mine from Perfect Dark.
When the game was released, the item had a new name. The previous item text made reference to the "Carrington Institue", when now it simply states that it has been a favorite weapon of spies and other stealthy operatives.

One thing that's different from this mine and the one found in 007, is the errie green glow that radiates from the bomb. This was likely added for effect, to make players aware that the bomb is armed instead of simply lying on the ground for pickup.

And for the game description, instead of saying that the weapon is from Goldeneye, it says Top Secret. Nice touch.

Pre-Release Screenshot
The "Perfect Dark" style mine as it appears inside a battle arena.
Although it doesn't matter either way, I wonder why they chose to replace the Goldeneye-style mine with the Perfect Dark one...

Pre-Release Screenshot
A change in character appearance here... In this "beta" screenshot, the Topi trophy is a seal. The text remains completely unchanged, but the character certainly can't be mistaken for the one featured below...
Topi as he appears in the finished version of Melee. Quite a difference with a shaggy coat of white fur instead of a slippery blue seal.

Pre-Release Screenshot
Just a snapshot from Icicle Mountain, with the seal characters making an appearance here. One thing that always has caught my attention about this arena, is when you select it... The icon seems slightly larger than the others, and it's off to the side, and not in line with the others. A late addition to the game, perhaps?
