Matches 1-25
Strategies Written by Hutz
There are a total of 51 Event Matches. However,
not all 51 are available when you start. More of them open up after unlocking
certain Hidden Characters,
and as you complete the existing Events.
When you first begin, you'll find that the
Event Matches are a breeze to complete. But as you progress through them,
they get considerably tougher to beat.
Event Match 1: Trouble
King
Character: Mario
Opponent(s): Bowser
Arena: Battlefield
|
Will
this feud ever end? As Mario, it's your job to KO Bowser twice before
he does the same to you.
Mario is a balanced character who's
easy to learn, and Bowser is the slowest character in the game.
Take advantage of the situation and pelt Bowser with fireballs and
quick attacks. When his damage gets high, a quick smash is all that's
needed to send him out of the arena.
|
Event Match 2: Lord
of the Jungle
Character: Giant DK
Opponent(s): Tiny DK
Arena: Kongo Jungle
It's King Kong vs. an ant! As Giant DK, you
have to KO tiny DK twice before he KO's you twice.
This battle seems rather lopsided at first,
but once you start you'll realize that hitting Tiny DK is an exercise
in frustration. If he's on the ground, use down+A attacks, and if he's
on a higher platform, use forward+A attacks. Once you get a chance, charge
up your Giant Punch fully for a quick KO.
Event Match 3: Bomb-fest
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): Samus, Link
Arena: Princess Peach's Castle
So much fire... everything in this match
explodes! Pokeballs release Electrode, Samus and Link are bomb happy,
and Bob-ombs and Motion Sensor Bombs are everywhere! Everybody has one
life to lose.
Try to stay away from all the explosions
and grab all the items you can. Bob-ombs and Motion Sensor Bombs are quick
and easy ways to destroy your opponents.
Event Match 4: Dino-wrangling
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): Giant Yoshi
Arena: Yoshi's Story
With three lives, you must KO Yoshi once.
He's a rather big dinosaur here, though, and his attacks almost always
hit you.
Use a character you're proficient with, preferably
one with a good Meteor Smash. Once his damage gets high, a Meteor Smash
near the edge can send him down fast. Yoshi is somewhat clumsy and often
falls of the edge by himself.
Event Match 5: Spare
Change
Character: Ness
Opponent(s): Captain Falcon
Area: Onett
|
As
Ness, you face Captain Falcon in a Coin Match with a 200 Coin limit.
The arena is Onett, so watch out for the speeding vehicles!
Even if you're not good with Ness,
this Event Match is a breeze. Just keep smashing Captain Falcon
and grab the resulting money that flies from him. KOing him will
make half his coins fall to the edge of the arena, so whenever you
can, KO him at the sides of the arena. Also, getting smoked by a
car releases a ton of money, so lure him down when the "!"
exclamation appears.
|
Event Match 6: Kirbys
on Parade
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): 3 Kirby
Area: Fountain of Dreams
As the fighter of your choice, you must KO
3 small Kirbys twice. Since they're so tiny, single attacks tend to knock
them out.
The Kirbys here are small, sound really funny,
and fly off the arena with a single smash. They also seem to be scared
of you, and spend more time evading than attacking. They don't put up
much of a fight, so this Event Match should be no problem.
Event Match 7: Pokemon
Battle
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): Pikachu
Arena: Pokemon Stadium
It's a standard 2 life battle against Pikachu.
Or so it seems. Regular attacks do nothing to both of you. The only way
to attack is to use the Pokeballs that frequently drop from the sky.
Fast characters are the best for this match,
like Fox or Captain Falcon. Since you're not attacking, just rush to every
Pokeball you see and crack it open. Once Pikachu gets trapped in Pokemon
attacks, you should have no problem collecting more Pokeballs.
Event Match 8: Hot
Date on Brinstar
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): Samus
Arena: Brinstar
It's just you versus Samus, and you each
have three lives. You both start off with over 100% damage, though. It's
your lucky day, because she starts off with more than you!
Try to avoid using light characters, as you
start off with too much damage for comfort. After damaging Samus a bit
after the match starts, she flies off the arena rather easily. Just don't
fall prey to any of her powerful attacks.
Event Match 9: Hide
'n' Sheik
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): 2 Zelda
Arena: Great Bay
You're against 2 Zeldas, and you each have
only one life. Even though they fly off the arena easily, they keep regenerating
unless they're KOed in their Sheik form.
When the match starts, immediately use weak,
quick attacks to raise the Zeldas' damage meters. Once they turn into
Sheik, rush in and hit them with a quick smash before they turn back to
Zelda. They're lighter weight than you think.
Event Match 10: All-Star
Match 1
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): Mario, DK, Yoshi, Peach, Bowser
Arena: Varies
With two lives, you must KO each of the five
opponents once in five separate one-on-one battles. Your opponents are
the classic Mario series stars.
The first of five All-Star Event Matches,
this is a pretty simple Event Match that tests your true fighting skills.
As you KO each opponent, the arena changes and another challenger awaits.
Try not to take too much damage early on, as losing a life early could
spell doom in a later match.
Event Match 11: King
of the Mountain
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): 2 Ice Climbers
Arena: Icicle Mountain
You have one life, and the two pairs of Ice
Climbers you're against have infinite. The match is yours if you survive
for one minute.
Try to select a fast, evasive character,
like Pikachu or Fox. Don't focus on attacking the Ice Climbers, as any
KO is made in vain. Just run around and avoid their attacks. It's not
hard to survive for one minute.
Event Match 12: Seconds,
Anyone?
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): Captain Falcon
Arena: Mute City
In seven seconds, you must KO the speed demon
Captain Falcon, and you both start off with 100% damage.
This Event Match is simple - use Captain
Falcon or Ganondorf and open up with a B attack (Falcon Punch/Warlock
Punch). He walks into it every time.
Event Match 13: Yoshi's
Egg
Character: Yoshi
Opponent(s): Pikachu, Fox, DK
Arena: Rainbow Cruise
|
As
Yoshi, you must protect your egg from your opponents for 55 seconds.
Although Yoshi lacks a triple jump,
his double jump is his best evasive maneuver. Grab the egg before
your opponents pelt you with it too much, and keep double jumping
around then. If you're persistent, you'll survive for 55 seconds.
|
Event Match 14: Trophy
Tussle 1
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): 3 Random
Arena: Goomba Trophy
|
Fighting
on the curvy head of a Goomba, you must defeat 3 opponents. Everybody
has two lives, and winning will net you a Goomba Trophy.
The opponents are random, and the sloped
surfaces of the Goomba is awkward to fight on. Muster every bit
of skill you have to avoid falling off while dishing out attacks.
Use items to your advantage, and guard the edge of the arena when
possible to keep stubborn opponents from coming back.
|
Event Match 15: Girl
Power
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): Samus, Peach, Zelda
Arena: Fountain of Dreams
It's you versus the girls, and your character
has been made smaller so they sound more female. Everybody has two lives.
This Event Match can be rather tricky, as
Fountain of Dreams is a fairly small arena. Try to keep all your opponents
on one side to prevent back attacks, and be careful. Your character is
smaller and easier to KO than usual. Guard the edge of the arena whenever
possible, and keep an eye out for helpful items.
Event Match 16: Kirby's
Air-raid
Character: Kirby
Opponent(s): 10 Kirby
Arena: Corneria
As Kirby, you must dispatch 10 of your fellow
men. The catch? You get 38 seconds to KO them all, and only Warp Stars
will hurt them.
Your opponents do little more than pace back
and forth across the Great Fox. Grab Warp Stars as the parade of puffballs
draws near, and use the Control Stick to steer the star mid-air towards
the group. It takes a bit of practice to pull this off, but you'll be
able to finish this Event Match in no time once you've mastered it.
Event Match 17: Bounty
Hunters
Character: Samus
Opponent(s): Captain Falcon, Bowser
Arena: Jungle Japes
As Samus, you must defeat Bowser before Captain
Falcon does. You're unable to damage your fellow Bounty Hunter.
Captain Falcon is surprisingly powerful in
this match. The downside to his power is that he occasionally KO's himself
by accident. If that happens, the match is basically yours. If he does
survive, though, keep grabbing Bowser away with your grappling hook and
fling him away from Captain Falcon. Make sure you attack quickly, as Falcon
is rather quick to steal your prey right from under your nose.
Event Match 18: Link's
Adventure
Character: Link
Opponent(s): Link
Arena: Temple
|
A
battle seen only twice before in the Zelda series, Link must face
off against his darker half. Dark Link is exactly like Link except
for his appearance. You each have two lives.
If you're good with Link, this Event
Match isn't too hard. Keep the battle near either side of the arena,
and when Dark Link has enough damage, Spin Attack (up+B) him off
the edge. If the battle is kept near the middle, you'll spend too
much effort damaging him when it's not necessary.
|
Event Match 19: Peach's
Peril
Character: Mario
Opponent(s): Bowser
Arena: Final Destination
You play the role of Mario the Bodyguard
as Bowser makes an attempt to defeat Princess Peach once and for all.
Defeating Bowser does nothing - your job is to keep you and Peach alive
for one minute.
This Event Match requires persistence. Notice
Peach's pattern - all she does is walk back and forth on the arena. Use
her predictable nature to your advantage and hurl Bowser behind her. Avoid
being damaged too much and keep Bowser out of Peach's face. If you start
getting too damaged and the match is almost over, just let Bowser attack
her. She can survive for a while. Make sure to use all the items available
to your advantage.
Event Match 20: All-Star
Match 2
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): Samus, Link, Zelda, Captain Falcon, Fox
Arena: Varies
Basically the same setup as All-Star Match
1, you fight five different opponents in one-on-one matches. This time,
your opponents are the realistic Nintendo stars.
The same advice for All-Star Match 1 applies.
It's a true test of skill and endurance to defeat 5 opponents with two
lives. It's not difficult if you use a character you've mastered.
Event Match 21: Ice
Breaker
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): 2 Ice Climbers
Arena: Princess Peach's Castle
In one minute, you must defeat two pairs
of Ice Climbers. Actually, you only need to defeat one pair - both pink
Nanas. KOing a blue Popo will fail the match.
This Event Match is a lot like making eggs
- you first must separate. Use regular attacks to eventually pry each
pair apart, then send the Nana flying. The Ice Climbers do nothing more
than jump up and down constantly, making them easy targets.
Event Match 22: Super
Mario 128
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): 128 Tiny Mario
Arena: Mushroom Kingdom II
|
It's
just like an early GameCube demo that featured 128 Marios on-screen
Only 5 appear at once, but in total you must defeat 128 of the little
runts.
Although you get swarmed with a lot
of Marios, they're really easy to KO. A single Strong attack is
enough to send them off. As the match starts, jump up to either
side of the arena and duck down. Keep using sweep attacks to KO
the tiny plumbers. If they surround you, jump to the other side
of the arena and commence the repeated sweep attacks again.
|
Event Match 23: Slippy's
Invention
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): Fox, Falco
Arena: Venom
It's you versus Fox and Falco, and everybody
has two lives. However, Slippy created a permanent cloaking device that
they both use, so it's really hard to see your attackers. (Funny, I thought
the Skedar invented that thing...)
While it's hard to see your opponents, it's
not impossible. You can catch glimpses of them as they move around, and
they become semi-visible when they attack. Keep the battle on the lower
wings, as it's easier to KO them there. Make sure that they're between
you and the edge so they don't KO you by surprise. Fox and Falco are both
light, so using smash attacks at the edge of the wings is a good way to
KO them.
Event Match 24: The
Yoshi Herd
Character: Your choice
Opponent(s): 30 Yoshi
Arena: Yoshi's Island
You have 2 measly minutes to defeat an entire
herd of 30 Yoshis. They're really weak, however, and easily KOed with
certain attacks.
Find an attack that KOs the Yoshis in one
hit and stick with it. They play rather defensively and wait for you to
come to them. The arena is awkward to KO opponents in because of the sloped
sides. Nonetheless, be persistent and aggressive, but be careful when
around the center of the arena, as you can easily fall down without knowing
it.
Event Match 25: Gargantuans
Character: Giant Bowser
Opponent(s): Giant DK
Arena: Fourside
|
Atop
the towering skyscrapers of Fourside, you must KO giant DK twice
with only one life. A nice touch to this match are the tiny Mario
and Peach characters that DK instantly destroys!
As if Bowser weren't already awkward
enough to control, now he's bigger and more clumsy! Immediately
take the battle to DK and attack him from the right side of the
Monotoli Building, keeping DK on the building at the far right.
Use a combination of attacks including down+A strong, down+A smash,
forward+A strong/smash, down+B, and B. DK will often fall into the
space between buildings and be unable to recover. If not, he can
be smashed off to the side at about 300% damage.
