Home Run Contest

The Stadium offers a different type of challenge: Using a baseball bat to send a sandbag flying for distance. By making the sandbag soar to a set goal, you can earn a few secret things:

990 feet: Sandbag Trophy
1,323 feet: Unlocks the Past Yoshi's Island arena
1,485 feet: Paper Mario Trophy

The amount of distance that you can hit the sandbag depends on how much damage you inflict on it before swinging the bat. The higher the damage of the sandbag, the further it will travel when it's hit. You only have ten seconds to score damage on the sandbag and smash it with the baseball bat.

To smash the baseball bat into the sandbag, you need to smash the control stick forward at the same time you press the A button. This is much stronger than simply pressing 'A' to swing the bat.

Shown here are strategies for Roy and Yoshi. If you've got an easy strategy for another character, feel free to submit it. DetErest@detstar.com

Roy:

Here's an easy strategy to get great distance using Roy. It was submitted by a visitor of this website.

As Roy, don't even bother to grab the bat. Setp up, and use Roy's partially charged A+up smash attack to send the bag into the air. As soon as you hit it, begin charging the same smash attack and unleash it again as soon as the bag comes back into range.

Three well placed A+up attacks should cause over 20% damage each, leaving the sandbag with 63% total damage or more. After you hit the sandbag into the air for the third time, start holding B to charge up Roy's sword. It takes almost five seconds to fully charge Roy's powerful sword swing, but it's well worth it.

When Roy's charged sword makes contact with the sandbag, it'll add an additional 50% damage. The sandbag will be shot into the sky like a rocket.

Yoshi:

Yoshi is another easy character to use. While using Yoshi, you can use his dropkick (A + down in midair) to score quick and major damage on the sandbag.

It's usually best to grab the baseball bat first, and then get to work on damaging the sandbag. Once the countdown gets close to the end, face the sandbag and swing.

With Yoshi, dropkick the sandbag (A + down in midair) as many times as you can, then swing the bat. Each dropkick can earn upwards of 40% damage.

The best method, is to make small jumps, and start your kick when Yoshi's feet are at the top of the sandbag.

Once the countdown's almost over, smash the sandbag with the bat before time runs out. The higher the damage on the sandbag, the further it will fly.

Smashing with the baseball bat means quickly hitting the control stick forward while pressing the 'A' button at the same time. You know you've smashed the bat when you see blue sparkles on your swing.

You need to hit the sandbag at least 1,485 feet to snag all the prizes. For the sandbag to travel that distance, it needs to have approximately 120% damage BEFORE you smash it with the bat.
