What would a Detstar website be without a page dedicated to all the cool
details and tidbits found in a game? In addition to the actual gameplay,
many games have all kinds of miscellaneous items that often go unnoticed.
Below are all the interesting things that have been found so far in Super
Smash Bros Melee.
If you've found something in the game that should be posted here, feel

 Killer
Klaptraps...
On a previous 'stuff' update, I mentioned
the Klaptraps that can be found occasionally swimming down
the waterfall in the Kongo Jungle. One thing that I recently
found out, is that they aren't just for show... If your character
happens to make contact with one, the creature will viciously
snap and bite you several times. This attack is made even
more complete with ferocious sound effects.

Operation
Behind The Brains...
While viewing the
Trophy gallery, you can zoom in and see a hidden detail inside
the Metroid trophy. There's a reflection of an elevator from
Super Metroid on the SNES. This little feature is something
that I've known about for a while, but it's always been really
blurry and hard to make out. But thanks to a recent tip, I've
learned that by moving the camera inside the brain and looking
outward, a much clearer view can be obtained.

Peach's
Panties...
This particular piece of 'stuff' has
been sent to me by dozens of Melee players. So I finally decided
to post it, to keep people from telling me about it... If
you choose Princess Peach of your character, you can catch
a brief glimpse of her underwear when she's jumping or kicking.
It appears to just be another detail for a bit of realism.
If any guys out there are excited by viewing this image, they
must not be aware that there's much more entertaining material
available on the Internet.

Dungeon
Doorway...
Towards the bottom of the Hyrule Castle
stage, a distant doorway can be seen if you move all the way
to the right and pause the game to zoom in. I don't believe
that it means anything at all, except that it was put there
simply for detail. It's slightly hidden though... Possibly
because they didn't want us to find it easily? Who knows.

Death Defying Stunt...
This isn't really a hidden detail, but
rather a glitch of sorts... Whenever Bowser grabs someone,
and uses a down throw move, the poor victim struggles helplessly
on the ground before Bowser throws his weight forward and
gives them a belly slam. But if you perform this move really
close to an edge, the victim will struggle in midair before
Bowser lands on them. The move looks the same as it always
does, except it's rather odd to see someone suspended flat
out and in midair without falling.

Smashing Split...
The last update to this section featured
the part about breaking the upper platforms of the Brinstar
stage, to put a bit of a twist on the gameplay. Someone else
has pointed out that you can actually break the entire arena
in half for a short period of time by performing a downward
smash on the little pods/orbs seen here. My first choice to
try this trick was with Samus, but her downward smash doesn't
seem to break it down all the way. Better results were found
by using Peach, but it can be done with many other characters
as well.

Dolphin Detail...
This dolphin poster has been spotted
in the Big Blue stage, and it can also be seen here in Captain
Falcon's target test inside Stadium Mode. This little graphic
somehow eluded my attention, likely because my mind was too
focused on smashing all of those targets.

Swimming
Shrooms...
Barrels will float down the river and
tumble over the waterfalls in the Kongo Jungle, and so will
the occasional mushroom. If you're able to make contact with
one of these powerups, you'll be supersized.

|
Sheath
Action...
A small little observation that was
submitted by a Detstar visitor... Whenever you're playing
as Marth or Roy and you use L/R to shield, your character
will temporarily put their sword back in its sheath.

Smashing Through Time...
Here's
something that I can't believe I never noticed before...
In the lengthy intro that plays at the beginning of
Melee, each of the main characters makes a brief appearance
with their own scenery. As different poses of Link are
displayed, images from The Legend of Zelda:
Ocarina of Time can be spotted in the background.
Young Link can be seen here, playing the Ocarina, and
talking to Malon. On the right half of this shot, we
can see Darunia, the Goron Leader.
|
|
The
intro movie plays so quickly that I hadn't realized
these ancient images were burned into the backdrop.
The very first thing to catch my eye was the face of
Princess Zelda. Link can also be seen riding Epona through
Hyrule field. Also shown here is Rauru, creator of the
Temple of Time.
|
|
Even
more can be seen here, as Princess Zelda is whisked
away on horseback. We can also catch a glimpse of Sheik,
and another one of Link entering what I believe is a
Fairy Fountain.
|
|
This
final melange of Ocarina snapshots shows Link inside
the Temple of Time. The final image on the right features
Link plunging the Master Sword into its pedestal. The
six medallions (Forest, Water, Fire, Shadow, Light,
and Spirit) can be seen at the top and bottom of each
screenshot.
